Vale Industries Ltd.
This 33,610sqft building consists of a variety of areas including fabrication, welding, assembly, shipping, receiving, material cold storage and paint booth. Inside the shop is a 2 story ancillary space for a lunchroom, change room, training room, and washrooms. Attached to the main building is a 3,200sqft fabric building for sandblasting and 3,000sqft wood-framed office building.
The main building is constructed with a Behlen pre-engineered steel structure while the office and ancillary spaces are wood-framed structures with structural concrete slabs.
The exterior finishes are predominately-prefinished metal cladding with a standing seam roof system in a two tone color.
Some unique features of the project include the 5 overhead cranes and 11 jib cranes inside the main shop. The end walls include over-sized overhead doors to allow large material access and a self-contained paint booth inside the facility. A challenge of the project included the development of the 14 acres of land with drainage ditches and parking to accommodate the lifespan of the building.
