Kahkewistahaw School Addition
This project consists of 4 separate projects. An 11,500sqft building addition, (2) 290sqft additions off the existing gymnasium, a 1,500sqft locker room addition and minor interior renovations to the existing school. The main school addition included 4 new classrooms, a multipurpose room, resource center, staff room, washrooms, multiple storage areas and circulation spaces.
The building is constructed with a screw pile and concrete grade beam foundation, hollow core floor system, concrete block exterior and interior walls, and a wood framed roof system. A 6’ deep crawlspace throughout is used for mechanical equipment and as a continuation from the previous school addition.
The exterior building is finished with a tyndall stone and composition roof shake which adds a strong maintenance free look to the project. The site includes new walks, playgrounds, and landscape areas.
A unique feature of the project includes a 12’ high teepee surrounding a smudge pit. This focal point in the Resource center is constructed with structural tubing, glass, and stone.
